Visualising the quantum Hall effect

There is a nice simulation associated with the Wikipedia page.
It shows how the Landau level filling varies as the magnetic field increases.
For low fields this is also useful for understanding how the periodic oscillations associated with the SdH and dHvA effects arise.

  1. I like how the simulation demonstrates the relation between the energy bands and the stepwise behaviour.

As the magnetic field increases, the spacing between the bands widen.
As the bands widen, the resistivity does not change until a band crosses the Fermi energy, resulting in the step.
